HYPERMARKETS LOOK TO THE PROVINCES

Two major hypermarket operators - Big C Supercenter and Tesco Lotus - both added a new branch in the provinces.

Kudatara Nagaviroj, director of corporate affairs for Big C Supercenter Plc, said the company spent 125 million baht to develop the Big C Market on Thepkasattri Road in Phuket. With 2,500 square metres of retail area, the new branch offers over 15,000 items. It is the second Market format in the southern region and 12th Big C Market nationwide.

The densely populated location has several businesses and is easily accessible by various roads, he said.

The outlet is expected to create over 90 new jobs.

Tesco Lotus also announced the opening of Extra Khon Kaen Ban Sila store with 32,000 sq m. It is the first Extra store outside Bangkok, featuring a cinema in the mall.

The outlet has nearly 100 permanent and temporary shops with a food court and an EGV multiplex, as well as a shop-in-shop with 45,000 products.
