Tesco Lotus opened Thailand’s and Asia’s first
zero-carbon store in the Bang Phra area of Chon Buri last Friday. The store,
which emits net zero carbon dioxide, demonstrates the hypermarket chain’s
commitment to the environment. Features include lower-watt LED lighting,
hydrocarbon refrigerators and rammed-earth walls; a wind turbine and solar
cells power the store. Rainwater will be collected for car washing and to flush
store toilets.
