Burning CentralWorld 'could collapse'

The burning CentralWorld shopping complex is starting to collapse, Pathum Wanaram Temple community member Boonlert Klaipook said on Wednesday night.

The flames at one of Thailand's major shopping centres and landmarks were starting to calm down, Mr Boonlert said at around 22.40pm.CentralWorld was believed to be set on fire by anti-government protesters around 3pm after leaders of the red-shirt United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) surrendered to the police around 1pm.

Fire trucks could not get to the site for several hours due to sniper fires. They could come in after night falls.

Mr Boonlert said more than 60 CentralWorld staff were now resting at Pathum Wanaram Temple.
